FAQ > Workers Compensation > Who is NCCI and why do they send me information?
NCCI is the "National Council on Compensation Insurance" They are an independent company that is used by almost every insurance company in the United States that underwrites Workers Compensation insurance. They serve many functions but the two most common are to establish rates in each state based on loss data from prior years and forecasted data, and determine individual companies ERM or "Experience Rate Modifier". This data should be copied to you if you qualify for an ERM. You will be sent a Experience Rating worksheet that will resemble a spreadsheet. These numbers make up the data used to determine your rating factor. Your factor is multiplied by your premium which results in a credit (number less than 1.00) or a debit (number greater than 1.00). Your claims, payroll, and type of business are a few things that influence your modifier. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
